Be That Friend | Finding Nebo

As a new school year begins, Nebo School District is rallying around a simple but powerful theme: Be That Friend.

Superintendent Rick Nielsen joins Lindsey Hughes and Seth Sorenson to talk about what those three words can mean in our schools and communities. Inspired in part by Dr. Kyle Reyes’ Lenses of Humanity and its focus on connection, reflection, and empathy, Rick shares why some of the people who leave the greatest mark on our lives are those who choose to be "that friend” when we need one.

From teachers who give students a reason to come to school, to coworkers who notice when someone is struggling, to educators reassuring a parent on the first day of kindergarten, being “that friend” doesn’t require being someone’s best friend. Sometimes it simply means recognizing what someone needs in a particular moment and choosing to show up.

As more than 5,000 Nebo employees welcome students back to school, Rick also shares his gratitude for the families who entrust educators with their children and for the people throughout Nebo who bring their best each day to serve them.

Be That Friend. It might make a bigger difference than you know.
